Ministry of Education Extends PM-USP Special Scholarship Scheme till 2026 for Students of J & K and Ladakh

New Delhi: Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Special Scholarship for the students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has been extended by the Ministry of Education till March 31, 2026.

Under the PM-USP Special Scholarships, 5000 new scholarships are offered each year for poor students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to study in India outside of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The scholarship covers the cost of tuition as well as living expenses. Scholarships for general studies are worth Rs. 30,000 annually, while engineering courses are worth Rs. 1.25 LPA and for medical courses it is Rs. 3 LPA. Under the plan, all students get a fixed maintenance allowance of Rs. 1 LPA.

The upper limit of family income for eligible students under the PM-USP Scholarship for college and university students and the Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme has been reduced to Rs. 4.5 LPA beginning with the financial year 2022-23.

According to the information on the ministry of education's official website, the previous limit for students from Jammu & Kashmir who completed class 12 from the state and also acquired admission outside the state in institutions that are either authorised by the UGC or recognised by the AICTE was Rs. 6 LPA.

The government is also planning to allow medical and engineering students to swap seats subject to the savings accruing if there is a drop in the number of students enrolling in general degree programmes.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee, which was constituted to oversee the procedure, is in charge of its implementation and supervision.
