MBBS Admission 2022: New Pune College Gets 100 Seats; Total Seats Increased to 9000 in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing MBBS admission process in Maharashtra, a total of 100 new seats have been approved in Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Pune.

The approval of 100 medical seats sums the total MBBS seats tally in Maharashtra to 9,000. However, the aspirants are apprehensive about the viability as the colleges are relatively new.

Earlier, this week, the Medical Education Department of Maharashtra had published a Government Resolution (GR) in this regard stating that Pune Municipal Corporation – Medical Education Trust-run Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Pune has been permitted with 100 seats for first-year MBBS admission.

Mixed Responses from MBBS Aspirants

With the release of the government resolution, the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test Cell, MAHCET issued a notice notifying that a chance will be provided to the MBBS students to add this college in their preference list.

Further, the candidates who have secured MBBS seats in the first two rounds of the seat allotment will get an opportunity to undo their seat retention if they are willing to get admission to this college. However, the circular received mixed reactions from the MBBS aspirants.

According to the latest reports, one of the parents of an aspirant said that the college will have an institutional quota, as opposed to other government colleges where there will be an expensive fee. But for regular seats under the open category, the fee of INR 7 lakh is definitely better compared to other private or deemed university medical colleges in the state.

Another parent activist said that with the addition of a new college, there will be a lower cutoff, with undeveloped classrooms. Moreover, the college will function from a temporary place.
