The decision was padded by the Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Department on the 131st birthday anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, April 14, 2022. Following the decision, the key curriculum of the courses will be designed by experienced political science stream teachers.

Referring to this initiative, Uday Samant, State's Higher and Technical Education Minister officially tweeted, "On the occasion of Dr. On Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary, we have decided to start a course called 'Introduction to Indian Constitution' for all students across all universities”.

“State University VCs have already been informed about this and will be implemented soon" the tweet further reads.

As per the officials, the 'Introduction to Indian Constitution’ subject will include key topics related to the Indian Constitution, such as fundamental rights and duties, directive principles of state policy, formation and functioning of the state assembly, and parliament and different commissions, among others.

Additionally, the course topics will be covered by various expert speakers and teachers. The new curriculum is expected to mainly focus on significant aspects of the Indian Constitution and will have only about 10 to 15 lectures.

As of now, there is no official notice on how to include the subject in courses. Due to this, many Universities in Maharashtra are still unsure what to expect as the decision is still in its early stages. Colleges are still waiting for clear directions from the state government,

Talking about the subject, south Mumbai college heads stated that the subject “Indian Constitution” is included in both senior and junior classes. There is a need for a clear course curriculum so that the new system won’t become repetitious.
