Maharashtra to Give 50:50 Weightage to CET & Class 12th Marks for UG Professional Courses

With this, the performance of applicants in the Class 12th Board Exam and Common Entrance Test (CET) will be given equal consideration for admission to undergraduate professional and technical courses in Maharashtra state colleges and universities.

The official statement came after the Education Minister held a meeting with officials of various institutes in Pune. The higher education department will soon release an official notification for new criteria for admission to undergraduate professional courses.

As of now, admission to engineering, law, pharmacy, and other UG Courses in Maharashtra are offered to students on the basis of CET scores. Class 12th marks are only considered to determine the eligibility of applicants to appear for Common Entrance Test.

Talking about the new admission criteria, Education Minister Uday Samant informed that the decision was made after a discussion with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. This step will help students in creating a strong base in class 12th and focus equally on CET exams.

"Under the present system, students are focusing only on the CET. But, after a discussion with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, it has been decided that now equal weightage will be given to the CET marks and Class 12 marks" Education Minister, Uday Samant added.

Adding to the statement, the Education Minister further stated that the authorities are also considering conducting the CET examination twice. This will be done so that students who are not satisfied with their scores in the first exam can aim for better marks in the second attempt.

Earlier, the officials conducted a meeting to discuss the review of this year's CET exam. During the meeting, the Education Minister informed the CET Results will be published within 10 days after the exam is conducted. The result is expected to be released on July 01 from next session.

Informing about this decision, the Education Minister said, “For this year, plans are to declare the result within the next 10 days, after the exam is conducted. So, no results will be put on hold for all other exams to happen, and one by one results will be declared".
