Maharashtra Govt. Approves 25% Quota in PG Medical Seats for In-Service Officers

New Delhi: Maharashtra government has granted a 25% reservation in PG medical seats for in-service medical officers. The decision was made at a joint meeting with the Maharashtra Public Health Department and the Maharashtra Medical Education Department on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

Maharashtra Govt. Approves 25% Quota in PG Medical Seats for In-Service Officers

Candidates seeking admission to MD colleges under the new quota must complete at least three years of service in rural and tribal public health institutions after completing their degree. As a result of the new decision, the public health department wants to give specialised medical services to people in rural and tribal communities.

Highlighting that the in-service benefits already existed with incentives in terms of marks an official from the medical education department said, “After completing MBBS degree, candidates who have served three years continuously in government health facilities in rural and tribal areas will be eligible to seek admission under this. After completing PG, these candidates will then have to serve a bond of five years of service in government health facilities”.

Medical officers working in government health institutions would be eligible for a maximum of 30% incentive on their NEET PG score. The incentives will now only apply to seats under 25% reserved as part of the in-service quota.

Muzaffar Khan, a medical education counsellor stated, “The in-service quota existed before 2018. However, after the conversion of PG Diploma courses into MDMS degree courses, this reservation was eliminated and only incentives in marks were allowed for PG degree admissions. The decision is a relief for medical officers working in government facilities but straight 25 per cent is on a bit higher side”.
