Kerala Governor Said, the University Laws Amendment Bill Would Legalise Several Irregularities

New Delhi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan declared on Thursday that he would not permit the state assembly's recent passage of the University Laws Amendment Bill because it tries to legalise wrongdoing.

Kerala Governor also opposed the newly passed Lok Ayukta Amendment Bill, claiming that no one should be allowed to evaluate his cause.

The contentious Lok Ayukta (Amendment) and University Laws Amendment Bills were passed by the Kerala Assembly on August 30 and September 1, respectively, despite vehement opposition from UDF members and their succeeding boycotts.

The Kerala Assembly approved the disputed Lok Ayukta (Amendment) and University Laws Amendment Bills on August 30 and September 1, respectively, despite strong opposition from UDF members and their following boycott.

In a statement issued to the media, the governor claimed that the University Laws Bill was intended to add unsuitable members of the state's chief minister and other ministers to the rosters of universities.

"I previously stated that I would resign from my post as chancellor. However, you want me to sign it and to do everything. That can't be done. They are attempting to make all criminal activities legal with this measure. I will not consent to this "stated Khan.

About the Lok Ayukta Bill, he asserted that it is against the fundamental rule of law for anyone to decide their legal matters.

The Lok Ayukta Bill aims to make the executive the final arbiter of appeals on anti-corruption agency reports. However, he added that he had read news stories and Assembly procedures on which to base his opinions.
