In 2020, only 11 students had scored 625/625 marks. The number of students who scored in the 620-624 range also spiked this year for SSLC Exam. Primary and secondary education minister BC Nagesh said the student-friendly examination this year was designed to help students preparing through the pandemic.

"As these children had an anxiety-filled two years, the question papers were easier. Instead of making 20% of questions tough, we brought it down to 10%," he said @85.6, pass percentage highest in 10 yrs.

This year, the pass percentage is 85.6%, the highest in the past 10 years, he said. Last year, the pass percentage was 99.9% due to the pandemic and all students who had appeared in multiple-choice examinations were promoted. In 2019-20, the pass percentage was 72.4%.

Following the recovery in covid-pandemic, this year, the examination was conducted in the normal format between March 28 and April 11 and 8.5 lakh students appeared for it.

The evaluation was conducted from April 24 to May 5 in 234 centres across 34 educational districts by 60,295 evaluators. Nagesh added that 40,061 students were awarded 10 grace marks to pass. "The criteria to award grace marks is that they must have scored at least 125 marks," he added.

As per the the reports, this year too, girls outperformed boys by logging 90.2% with boys at 81.3%. The results have improved since 2019-20 when 80.5% girls passed and boys 71.9%. As for differently-abled children, Nagesh said:

"They logged a pass percentage of 80.6% which is encouraging," he said. The unaided schools performed the best by logging 92.2%, followed by aided schools (87.8%) and government schools (88%).

This trend was also visible with regard to high scorers. The highest number of students (116) who scored 100% are from unaided schools. While 21 are from government schools, there were eight from aided schools. In terms of subjects with centums, social science topped (50,782), followed by third language (43,126) and first language (19,125).

Comparing the rural and urban region performance, the rural parts of the state performed better than urban parts with 91.3% (urban 86.6%). The department continued with its policy of not ranking districts to avoid unhealthy competition. Instead, these districts were graded.

Except for Bengaluru South and Yadgir, all other 32 districts were awarded Grade A. Grade A districts are those with quality weightage percentage that falls between 75 and 100 percent; Grade B for those between 60 and 75 percent and Grade C for those less than 60 percent.
