Karnataka SSLC & PUC to be Merged under One Board; State Assembly Approves a Merger Bill


New Delhi: Karnataka SSLC and PUC are all set to be Merged under one board, for which the Karnataka Assembly has voted to pass a bill, resulting in the merger of the Karnataka SSLC and PUB Boards.

According to the state legislature, KSEEB and the Department of PU Education would be merged under the“Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (Amendment) Bill 2022”. 

The Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) and the Karnataka State Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) will now combine to form a single board. The board will henceforth be known as the Karnataka School Examinations and Assessment Board in accordance with this bill. 

The State Education Minister, BC Nagesh stated that the tests administered by this board will continue to be held separately, however the primary administration of the Karnataka SSLC Exams and the Karnataka PUC Exams will be one. 

During the discussion over the merger, the minister emphasised that there should be no needless misunderstanding. 

The key objective of the bill approved by the assembly is to rename KSEEB. In addition to the SSLC Class 10th Exams, the board will now also administer the PUC Exams for the first and second years. The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board will also oversee other public exams.

The government will establish this new board in accordance with NEP 2020, the National Education Policy. The purpose of the bill, when it was first put up, was to guarantee that students receiving education from the state board had access to and received a high-quality education.

The position of director of mass education will now be known as chairperson under the new board. Further, the state assembly has suggested spending INR 2 lakhs annually.
