New Delhi: C N Ashwath Narayan, Karnataka's Minister of Higher Education, proposed Edinburgh University to establish a campus in Bangalore. During his visit to the 450-year-old university in Scotland, the Minister met with top university officials and made the offer.

Officials from Edinburgh University replied positively to the suggestion, and Mr Narayan also invited them to the Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS-22) silver jubilee event in November.
He stated, "The National Education Policy (NEP 2020) which is being implemented in Karnataka paves the way for the internationalisation of education. In addition, Edinburgh University is renowned for multi-disciplinary education which is also the core of NEP. These factors favour Edinburgh University to set up its campus in Bengaluru".
In addition, the Minister undertook discussions on higher education cooperation and considered the introduction of 'Twinning Courses.' He visited the robotic lab, data science, and AI centres situated at the Bayes Centre, which is an incubation and a unique model of a multi-disciplinary education centre on the Edinburgh University campus.
The Minister also highlighted the possibility of collaborating with VTU Belagavi in the fields of artificial intelligence, mechatronics, and cyber security.
Recently, Jamaica has also expressed interest in hosting an IIT campus. India is ready to partner with Jamaica and share its technical skills, knowledge and expertise which could transform Jamaica’s education and businesses. The announcement was made when President Ram Kovind went on a four-day visit to the country.
