Karnataka Degree Colleges to Start Admission Process from July 11: Higher Education Minister

As per the Minister of Higher Education, this will be the first time when the admission process to all degree colleges in Karnataka will be done through a uniform platform called Unified University and College Management System.

Interested candidates can apply for any college of their preference by simply using a single login and without having to physically visit different colleges in order to submit the admission applications.

Recently, some of the students who applied for undergraduate courses through the online websites of different state universities expressed their resentment and complained of technical glitches that hampered their admission process.

Referring to the issues faced by students, the Higher Education Minister clarified that the single login interface will make admission process a hassle-free task. Candidates can apply through the single login interface from July 11, 2022.

Informing about the platform, he added that the information related to the marks card can be obtained by entering the registered PUC number. Similarly, candidates can acquire caste certificates, income certificates, etc, by authenticating their Aadhaar number.

In addition to this, the Minister of Higher Education has also retained the fee of almost 440 First Grade Colleges, 100 Polytechnics, and 14 Engineering colleges in the state.

He said that for the first time after independence, the colleges have been permitted to retain the fee collected by them in their respective bank accounts. "This would result in INR 50 crore accumulation in bank accounts of institutions” he informed.

He pointed out that the committee led by Dr.Vasudeva Atre has submitted a report to develop the public universities in Karnataka. The universities will be developed and facilitated as equivalent to the IIMs in India

The state government has also issued a copy of the act on the basis of submitted reports on the official portal of the higher education department for the public to review and suggest their opinions.

The Higher Education Minister also announced the recruitment of teaching faculty in universities in Karnataka. The recruitment process will be done based on a merit list of eligible candidates prepared by the recruitment authority.

“The universities will be instructed to recruit by calling candidates on the merit list for interviews in a 1:5 ratio. This new system has been introduced to bring about transparency in the system,” Narayan further added.
