Jammu and Kashmir LG Launches Fellowship for Graduates; Details Here


Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced to roll out a fellowship program for engineering, management, and other graduates called 'Lieutenant Governor's Sustainable Development Fellowship (LGSDF)' in Jammu and Kashmir. 

As per the announcement made by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday, July 05, 2021, Lieutenant Governor's Sustainable Development Fellowship (LGSDF) will be funded by the Jammu and Kashmir Government. 

The fellowship program will be offered to students of engineering, management, or any other stream in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu

The main goal in offering the Lieutenant Governor's Sustainable Development Fellowship program is to offer catalytic support to improve government service delivery and generate valuable insights.

With the fellow program, the Jammu and Kashmir Government aims to remove the gaps found in policy implementation in the states, and generate helpful information for policymakers, and implementing agencies in order to prevent any errors in policy implementation. 

As per the official statement released in regards to the fellowship program, 10 students will be graduated from top colleges in states, such as IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, NIT Srinagar, and other national institutes under this program. 

"The applications for the fellowship program will be invited through online mode once a year through advertisement in leading newspapers and employment news from the candidates fulfilling the eligibility conditions under the scheme," the spokesman said.

Students who have done their fair share of requisite work, and have qualified GATE, MAT, or NET examinations will be selected from national institutes for the fellowship program.

Lieutenant Governor's Sustainable Development Fellowship (LGSDF) selected students must note that the tenure of the fellowship program is of two years duration, which can also be extended to three years if required. 

Referring to the initiative, the Jammu and Kashmir Government Spokesman said, “Its aim is to transform the overall delivery structure of government programs and to make it more efficient, transparent, and robust."

“The LGSDF is providing a unique and exciting opportunity for young professionals from premier institutes of the UT to work towards promoting outreach, transparency, efficiency, and improving the delivery of various Government Programmes,” he added.

The fellowship rate per month will be Rs 60,000 in total, in which field travel and other incidents will be reimbursed. The fellowship program will be monitored by the three-member committee formed by the authorities. 

The three-member committee will include IIT Jammu’s Director and Chief Secretary along with Principal Secretary to the LG. The members will be responsible for taking care of the program activities.
