New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir have launched a special teacher training programme focused on employing art-based techniques to improve children's emotional well-being and academic performance.

The Directorate of School Education of both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions partnered with the Piramal Foundation (Kaivalya Education Foundation) and Red Pencil Humanitarian Mission to create the arts-based capacity building and training (ACBT) programme.
The unique teachers training programme seeks to train about 150 teachers with the aim of improving students' overall socio-emotional well-being, particularly those who are unable to openly communicate their issues and grievances.
The programme was jointly introduced by Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir divisions, and Tasaduq Hussain Mir, Director of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
According to sources, the newly established programme is based on a theoretical framework for academic, social, and emotional learning that emphasises self-awareness, social awareness, relational skills, self-management, and responsible decision-making.
In the initial phase, 75 teachers each from the Jammu and Kashmir divisions would be trained. Sharma said the ACBT initiative will be beneficial in rural places like Poonch, Kishtwar, and Reasi because of the necessity of counselling students and how art therapy can provide teachers with skills to guarantee the all-around development of children.
According to Mir, ACBT will go a long way toward assisting the next generation in managing their thoughts so that students may study in a free and fair atmosphere.
