New Delhi: As per the Government of Maharashtra, students who have completed their two years of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) course can now apply for direct admission into the second year of engineering diploma courses in polytechnic colleges.

Informing about this decision, the Director of Technical Education (DTE) in Maharashtra stated the option for choice-based lateral entry to diploma courses is offered to all students after receiving approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Direct admission to colleges in Maharashtra state will only be offered to students for the coming two years; academic sessions 2022-23 and 2023-24. Interested candidates are advised to get the benefit from this initiative by applying for the admission process.
In a letter to the State Technical Education Director, the Prof Rajive Kumar AICTE Member Secretary said, "The relaxation is granted because students already pursuing Minimum Competency and Vocational Courses (MCVC) courses stand deprived of engineering courses".
"DTE Maharashtra is informed that as of the academic year 2024-25 the current norms shall prevail. Therefore, DTE Maharashtra may issue a notice giving clarification for the same to be applied for admission to lateral entry diploma courses in engineering and technology for the next two years" he further added.
Earlier, the direct admission to second-year engineering diploma courses was only offered to those students who have completed class 10th + two-year course or class 12th qualifications in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, and other engineering courses.
With this decision, the students who have completed their 2 years of training at ITI will be eligible to apply for lateral entry to diploma courses. These courses will have Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, and other subjects for students coming from diverse educational backgrounds.
The Director of Technical Education has issued a circular regarding changes in the admission process on June 15, 2022. He urged students to take maximum benefit of these changes as the direct admission option will only be open for the coming two years, from 2022 to 2024.
