New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind said that Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) have the major responsibility of transforming impressionable youth. For this, “the institutes have to focus on the aspirations of students, as they are future leaders in various spheres of life”.

The comment was made during the inauguration event of a two-day conference held on Tuesday, June 07, 2022, for Vice-Chancellors of Central Universities and Directors of Institutions of National Importance at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
During the event, the President said, "When the pandemic threatened to derail teaching, technology ensured continuity. There were difficulties, no doubt, but it is good to see that all of you imparted teaching and conducted assessments, evaluations, and research uninterrupted".
"We can build on that experience now, and make classroom sessions more interactive, giving students a thorough understanding of the subject" he added.
Addressing the conference, President Ram Nath Kovind further stated that in order to improve the quality of education, the institutes should also consider sophisticated and innovative learning approaches.
He further added that the key to achieving excellence in the field of education is to expand its boundaries through digital technologies and harness the transformational benefits for teaching and improving the learning education.
Expressing his gratitude, he added that central university institutions of national importance have played an important part in the extraordinary growth of India in recent times. "I am sure the higher education institutes will continue the good work,” Kovind said.
The two-day conference was held for 161 central universities and higher education institutes, out of which 53 attended the event physically while the remaining universities joined the event through online mode.
During the session, Prof Mohammad Zahid Ashraf, Department of Biotechnology, Jamia Millia Islamia was awarded the ‘Visitor’s Award 2020 for Research (Biological Sciences)’ for his work in hypoxia-induced thrombosis.
The second ‘Visitor’s Award 2020 for Technology Development’ was presented to Prof Pritam Deb, Department of Physics, Tezpur University, and the third ‘Visitor’s Award 2020 for Research (Physical Sciences)’ was given to Prof Anunay Samanta, University of Hyderabad.
