India and the UK signed an agreement to recognise each other's higher education qualifications, in a move that is in sync with a 10-year-vision to significantly strengthen overall bilateral ties.

The announcement about the pact, which is likely to benefit thousands of young people in both countries, was made by the British government on Thursday.

The agreement, which is a component of the Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP) between the UK and India, was agreed by Prime Minister's Boris Johnson and Narendra Modi last year.

Consequently, the undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as A-levels and their equivalents will now be recognised in India,  a statement from the ministry revealed.

According to the report, the two parties also agreed to implement MoUs that would establish a task force to help Indian nurses and nursing associates who seek to find employment to train and work in the UK's National Health Service.

The UK's Department for International Trade, said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on higher education, will enable Indian students who graduate from British universities to pursue postgraduate degrees or start careers in the government that requires university degrees when they return home.

India and the UK are already popular study abroad destinations for one another's students. The official statistics reveal that in the academic year 2020-21, the UK received a total of 84,555 Indian students.

According to industry estimates, the agreement will make UK universities more appealing to Indian students and is likely to have a beneficial economic impact because the UK stands to gain roughly 109,000 pounds per non-EU student.

The pact will make it easier for citizens of the UK to study abroad in India, giving them more options and expanding their academic and educational horizons. It will also make it possible for institutions to design courses that can be taught in both countries, giving students more choice and expanding their horizons.

International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said that they are thrilled to deliver on their promise to unlock barriers to trade between two nations and make UK higher education even easier to access and more enticing to Indian students.

James Cleverly, the Secretary of State for Education in the UK, claimed that foreign education is one of the nation's "finest exports" and that the UK universities are rightfully the "envy" of the world.

He said that the agreement will strengthen the UK-India alliance and lower obstacles so even more of the best and brightest Indian students can study, increasing the country's economy and enhancing their campuses and communities.

Further, It creates more options for British students to study abroad and sets the way for the world-class universities to offer additional degree programmes in one of the world's most dynamic and rapidly rising countries, he added.

Vivienne Stern MBE, Chief Executive, Universities UK International (UUKi) expressed the pact on educational qualifications as a "landmark, historic agreement.

Students' qualification will be accepted on both sides, making it simpler for them to advance in their education and find employment, he said.

An especially significant development is the acceptance of UK Masters. It means that the Indian graduates of the UK's outstanding universities will receive formal recognition of their remarkable accomplishments and full access to jobs in the public sector in India, he said.

During the India-UK virtual summit between Prime Ministers Johnson and Modi in May of last year, the India-UK relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two sides agreed to a 10-year road map at the summit to further expand their cooperation in a number of crucial sectors, including commerce and economics, security and defence, the environment, and interpersonal connections.
