IITs Plays a Vital Role in Making India a $5 Trillion Economy: Dharmendra Pradhan


New Delhi: “Institutes like IIT Madras play a significant role in making India a $5 trillion economy and realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat,” said Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan.

Education Minister while releasing the Strategic Plan 2021-27 of IIT Madras, which intended an aggressive growth phase for the Institute and devoted the Mphasis Centre for Quantum Sciences and Kotak-IIT (M) Save Energy Mission.

In addition, he inaugurated the 'Kotak IITM Save Energy' Mission, which is being established with CSR funding support from Kotak to assist MSMEs in reducing energy consumption, and he complimented the Mphasis team for supporting the development of the Centre for Quantum Information, Communication, and Computing.

 In addition, he awarded diplomas to select students of the BSc in Data Science programme.

The Minister also launched an indigenous GDI engine built by IIT Madras and backed by TVS Motor Company, as well as an inexpensive vegetable cart incubated at IIT (M). The Director of IIT Madras & students were present at the ceremony.

The Minister visited the 5G Test Bed for a presentation, the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Development Centre, the Rocket Factory of IIT Madras-based startup Agnikul Cosmos, the Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre, and the IIT Madras Incubation Cell 

In addition to other research facilities such as the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre, he also visited the campus's first 3D-printed house.

Speaking at the event, Pradhan congratulated everyone on the official opening and launch of these programmes to promote academic excellence and the development of the nation. 

“Creating a scientific mindset and influencing the destiny of humanity,” he claimed, is what IITs are here for. “They are more than just educational institutions”. He added that our society has high standards for IITs.

"Our IIT graduates must carry the development and growth torch.” He claimed that soon, the entire world would visit IIT Madras to take advantage of the Brain Research Center. Ideas like 3D printing technology, according to the education minister, "may revolutionize construction, assist in addressing the issue of displacement, and give the impoverished life of dignity.”

The $5 trillion economy of India and the realization of Viksit Bharat are largely due to institutions like IIT Madras. For all of us, the next 25 years are of utmost importance. We overcame a nation that colonized us when we entered the “Amrit Kaal”. 

India is developing at a previously unheard-of rate. He continued, "Our IITs must meet the enormous domestic requirements of a rapidly developing India."
