New Delhi: India has announced to establish the first-ever IIT outside the Country in Dubai as a part of the latest India-UAE trade deal. The deal was signed during a virtual meeting by representatives from both countries.

The Indian Government has announced to set up the Indian Institute of Technology for the first time ever in a foreign country. This new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will be set up in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) under the latest India-UAE trade deal signed on February 18, 2022.

As per the deal, the two nations will also set up an India–UAE cultural council to facilitate and promote cultural projects, cross-cultural exchanges, exhibitions, among others.
As per Piyush Goyal, the commerce and industry minister, this India-UAE CEPA trade is a balanced agreement. Around 90 per cent of the trade including imports and exports will be benefited from the deal, he added.
"Confirming the historical relations that exist between both the countries and realizing the need to establish world-class institutions that encourage and support innovation and technological progress, the leaders agreed to establish an Indian Institute of Technology in the United Arab Emirates," reads an official statement from the Ministry of External affairs.
The Historical Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed after a bilateral meeting between the representatives of the two countries.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal signed this India-UAE trade deal with the UAE delegations led by Minister of Economy, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri & Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.
This deal is aimed to increase the merchandise trade among both two countries to US$ 100 billion over the next five years.
IITs are Governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961
The Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act of, 1961 and they are among the most prestigious institutes in the country. At present, there are a total of 23 IITs located within the Indian territory.
However, with the establishment of IIT UAE, it will be the first time that the Premium Institute of India is making its presence in a foreign country.
Admission in IITs is conducted through the JEE Advanced 2022, administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Candidates who qualify for JEE Main 2022 with top rankings are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
