New Delhi: IIT Madras and Walmart Global Tech (WGT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the acceleration of research providing Walmart the associates with continuing education along with collaborations in terms of projects pertaining to Corporate Social Responsibility for their functioning in India.
The signatories to the agreement were Suresh Kumar, IIT Madras alumni and Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Walmart Inc., Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations, IIT Madras and Judith Raven, US Consul General.

IIT Madras and Walmart Collaboration: Training Programs for Skill Development
WGT will be provided with access to short-term and long-term education and training programs for upskilling talent and adopt the evolving demands of the retail and e-commerce industry.
As stated by Suresh Kumar, WGT is entrusted with the development and management of foundational technologies which has led to the building of customer experiences globally.
He further asserted that many of WGT’s associates including him developed engineering and analytical skills during the course of study at IIT Madras.
Kumar also stated that the association with IIT Madras would help in the empowerment of teams, collaboration on digital innovation and upgrade the education ecosystem in India.

IIT Madras and Walmart Collaboration: Corporate Social Responsibility
The partnership will facilitate WGT and IIT Madras to jointly engage in activities pertaining to Corporate Social Responsibility, along with the grants to be made for supporting faculty research and students through fellowships and scholarships.
WGT would also initiate sponsoring events, advertisements and related branding activities for supporting IIT Madras.
Recently, IIT Madras has been chosen for the advancement of women in STEM Courses. The committee is headed by the Nodal Officer Prof. Preeti Aghalayam, Faculty, Department of Chemical Engineering. Prof. Anindita Sahoo, Prof. Himanshu Sinha, Ms Richu George Philip and Mr Vijay Shankar are also a part of the committee.
