IIT Madras Offers Free Computer Science Courses for All; JEE Scores Not Required

New Delhi: IIT Madras has decided to undertake a unique initiative to offer top quality Computer Science courses to all interested applicants. Candidates will not be required to furnish JEE exam scores to seek admission to these courses.

IIT Madras Offers Free Computer Science Courses for All; JEE Scores Not Required

This initiative by the faculty of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Madras is an important step towards embracing the vision and mission of Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras. Some of his major missions include making high quality education accessible to rural India and making them more ready for the global job market.

As the goal is to make the course accessible to students and applicants from all fields, there is no need to provide JEE scores to enrol for these courses. The CSE Department has also created a dedicated portal (nsm.iitm.ac.in/cse) for interested candidates to have access to the core courses.

Professor C Chandra Sekhar, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), IIT Madras, has commented on this new initiative by the institute.

“The recordings of live lectures for CSE core courses at the undergraduate level and the graduate level by the faculty of the Department are expected to be helpful to the students in engineering colleges to learn the underlying concepts and principles of the subjects of these courses in the right manner”, Professor C Chandra Sekhar said in a statement.

Associate Professor Rupesh Nasre, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has also commented on this initiative and explained how this portal can help even a non-IIT Madras student.

The portal has been created to help students who could not study at IIT Madras, especially those from remote and rural areas of the country. They will have access to the same curriculum that is taught in the institute. This initiative will ensure that quality material is accessible to all students”, as commented by the Professor.

According to IIT Madras, among its many courses, Computer Science is one of the most sought-after engineering disciplines. This is also applicable for other IITs. Because there is a limited number of seats available in IIT Madras, this initiative is expected to help those who are not part of the institute.

In future, the department is also planning to randomise the available quizzes for better evaluation. All the elements together will thus help to provide a comprehensive educational package to the participating students to learn the subject better.
