IIT Madras & NICF Organises Capacity Building & Skill Development Program for Small Licensees


New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has collaborated with NICF's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to organize a two-day program on Capacity Building and Skill Development on July 07 and July 08, 2022, for small licensees.

With this, IIT Madras and the National Institute of Communication Finance aim to empower and support small entrepreneurs in the telecom sector. The program will include discussions on Skill Development in Telecom and Regulatory Compliance.

During the collaborative program, the participants will be introduced to the latest technological developments and skills required for business management and development. A panel discussion on ‘Impact of Satellite Communications on small licensees’ will also be held during the event. 

Addressing the program, Mr. Srikanta Panda, Director-General, NICF, stated that this skill development program is created to give licensees of DOT a training session in various fields such as networks, future technology, cybersecurity, skill development, and entrepreneurship. 

Highlighting the requirement of growth, he said, “As per revenue statistics for FY 221-22, these ISP and VNO licensees contributed 361 crores out of total revenue of 6327 crores accounting for only 5.7% of the pie which indicates growth potential available to these licensees”.

The program was organized by the National Institute of Communication Finance (NICF), Government of India with the participation of officers of DoT, NTIPRIT, ISRO, NSSC, CGCA, CCAs, LSAs, and students of IITs in India

Informing about the event, the officials stated that this initiative was taken to offer licensees in categories UL ISP ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’; UL VNO ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and Access B; ISP IT, etc from Service Areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh an opportunity to grow their businesses. 

Expressing his gratitude, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras said, “I hope this two-day event will be fruitful and will lead to continued interactions. We should be in continuous touch to share the latest developments across the world".

"We are very happy to host the event. I am happy to note that everything is changing and with that, it is important to have such capacity-building programs frequently where knowledge and ideas are shared" he added.
