IIT Kanpur Collaborated with SGPI Lucknow To Set Up Centre of Excellence; Read Full Report Here


Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has collaborated with Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow in order to work on innovation in the field of healthcare through indigenous solutions. 

Under the collaboration between IIT Kanpur, and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, a Centre of Excellence in Telemedicine and Healthcare Robotics will be set up to nurture smart healthcare objectives. 

The MoU between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and SGPI Lucknow was signed on June 29, 2021, during a ceremony in the presence of members of both institutes, such as Prof. R. K. Dhiman, Director, SGPGI, and Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur.

Referring to the initiative, Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur said, “Through this initiative, two leading institutions of India will join hands to uphold their vision of a robust, indigenous healthcare system, focused on promoting interdisciplinary innovation".

With this collaboration, the exchange of ideas in the field of engineering and medicine, as professionals will be done between both institutes.

Additionally, IIT Kanpur and SGPGI Lucknow have also agreed to establish an R&D set up in order to promote telemedicine aided by ICT and 5G, and point-of-care testing and diagnostics.

Commenting on the vision of MoU, Prof RK Dhiman, Director of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, SGPGI added that through the collaboration, a joint course in the field of Digital health will be launched. 

There is a need to develop the right technology platform, and system on a large scale to bridge the gap between care providers, and receivers. "The future holds the key for a hybrid healthcare system for which the bond between engineering and medical discipline needs to be strengthened,” he said.

The effort of both institutes will promote the entrepreneurship and development of the rural health system. The system will be developed further in a wide range, and help strengthen the health system. 

“In that context, the timing of handshake between the two major institutions is appropriate which is going to yield immense benefit to the society,” he further added.
