Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has submitted a proposal for establishing a center for excellence in advanced communication.
The Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan inaugurated the BSNL EPBAX Exchange and Bharat Fibre Services at IIT-Guwahati, and visited the IIT-Guwahati's Computer and Communication Centre (CCC).
He interacted with staff, students of the Electronics & Electrical Engineering department. The Director of IIT Guwahati, Prof TG Sitharam, Dean PRBR, Prof Parameswar K Iyer, Deputy Director Prof Sashindra K Kakoty, and Interim Registrar Prof A Srinivasan accompanied the minister.
The Supercomputer facility Param-Ishan and its capabilities for multiple scientific, technological, weather forecasting and healthcare applications was demonstrated to the minister, where the IIT Guwahati Director intimated him about the upcoming Supercomputer facility Param-Kamarupa that is currently is being installed at IIT Guwahati.

Further, the minister attended a meeting by the Postal Department, where he initiated new bank accounts for girl children on the occasion of Banking day, which was celebrated as part of the National Postal Week.
As a part of the event, a special release of special cover on Muga silk (GI Code: 55) was also organised and a special cover was released that will assist in spreading the popularity of the Muga silk and the name of Assam across the country and globally.
When the Union Minister visited the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE), several PhD scholars demonstrated the experimental establishment in the Anechoic Chamber Facility, which was designed for the antenna measurement and the Integrated Circuit Measurement Laboratories.
Chauhan interacted with the faculty members, staff, and students of the EEE department and Prof Sitharam presented a project proposal to the minister for establishing a “Center for Excellence in Advanced Communication” at IIT Guwahati.
The Center for Excellence will be set up with an aim to develop particular areas of next-generation communication systems that will enable the entire nation to take a lead in niche areas of communication technologies.
