IIT Guwahati Begins On-campus Offline Classes; Launches Eight New UG and PG Programmes

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has begun the offline classes in physical mode for the July 2022-23 semester and has also launched eight new undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes in the wake of the pandemic.

IIT-Guwahati has introduced eight new undergraduate and postgraduate courses  including BTech programmes in specializations like Energy Science and Engineering. 

Whereas MA in Liberal Arts, MTech in Bioengineering, MTech in Biomedical Science and Engineering, MDes in Electronic Product Design, MDes in Electronic Packaging and Design, MS (R) in Polymer Science and Technology, and MBA courses will be offered at PG level. 

The institute has implemented all COVID-19-related safety measures and is presently holding a significant vaccination booster dose drive in order to protect and ensure the wellbeing of its students. 

With the batch of students admitted during the pandemic attending full-semester classes in person for the first time, more than 7,400 students are currently enrolled in classes. 

Further, the institute has also raised a financial sum of money to assist the local people during the recent Assam floods. 

The drones developed by IIT Guwahati students and start-ups assisted with flood surveys and disaster relief efforts such as the transportation of food and medicine.

Speaking about the commencement of the on-campus classes, TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, said that the campus atmosphere is alive and brimming with zeal and enthusiasm with the presence of students across the campus. 

He said that everyone, including those whose livelihoods were dependent on the IIT-G campus, will gain a lot of profit as it will encourage greater intellectual contact within the community. 

He concluded by saying that the students are now taking advantage of a variety of chances that they were lacking during the online classes.
