IIT Goa Collaborates with Siemens and Corel Technologies to Establish Centre of Excellence on Industrial Automation; Check Details Here

IIT Goa has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Corel Technologies (I) Private Limited and Siemens Industry Software (India) Private Limited to launch Centre of Excellence on Industrial Automation.

As per the statement released by IIT Goa, the MoU was signed on December 17, 2020, for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Industrial Automation, in the domain of Product Design, Advanced Simulation, Robotics and Automation and Digital Manufacturing.

The actual cost of the centre is evaluated at INR 48 crore that will be quite extraordinary to this region which will facilitate faculty and research scholars of IIT Goa to conduct high-end research in partnership with Siemens to create new technologies, products, and advanced solutions.

The newly planned Centre of Excellence will also enhance the ongoing Atma Nirbhar Bharat program which is currently ongoing in collaboration with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).

Prof B K Mishra, Director, IIT Goa, stated that he was quite hopeful that the center would serve the local industries by giving state of the art services and forming new partnerships to take automation to a complete new stage.

Moreover, the Digital twin's facility of the product design package can help to virtually check product performance. It will create a virtual connection that will permit analysis of how a product would work under numerous conditions and find solutions in the online world to ensure that the next physical product will work the same as planned in the field.

The statement reads, “We will aim to solve problems involving noise, vibration, acoustics, durability, dynamics, performance, and control. A production digital twin can help validate how well a manufacturing process will work on the shop floor before producing it.”

It added, “By simulating the process using a digital twin and analyzing why things are happening using the digital thread, we hope to propose efficient production methodologies.”

Additionally, the robotics and automation package will ensure optimizing robotic and automated production systems though 3D robotic work cell design, as well as simulation.

Apart from this, IIT Goa offers consulting services for Goa Shipyards Limited (GSL) in several areas of R&D like Condition Monitoring of ship lift system, CFD analysis of heli-landing area on ship deck, among others. Thus, the proposed center will certainly open new opportunities for the R&D projects of marine industries, including GSL.
