IIT Delhi, NLU Delhi to Sign MoU for Research Opportunities in Technology and Law


Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and the National Law University Delhi conducted a joint faculty workshop with the goal of discussing opportunities in law and technology. 

At the joint faculty workshop, IITD and National Law University Delhi informed of working towards academic partnership opportunities in the field of Law and Technology. As per the official statement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also be signed between the institutes for collaborative teaching and research. 

The meeting also addressed the academic, and research projects specific between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and the National Law University Delhi. 

Referring to the MoU, Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice-Chancellor of NLU Delhi said, “This is in keeping with the National Education Policy 2020 that encourages interdisciplinary learning and partnership.”

Additionally, during the workshop, activities like Ph.D. Projects Joint supervision, Joint Certificate Programs, Auditing of Courses, and Training courses for industry professionals were also discussed between the institutes.

Confirming the collaboration between the two institutes, Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said, “This CoE [Centre of Excellence] has been established and is functional at IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi is also entering into a collaboration with the National Law University in Delhi”.

Addressing the need for higher education to be more international, professional, and effective, Ramgopal Rao and Srikrishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellors of NLU Delhi addressed the IIIT Delhi and NLU Delhi Faculty during the workshop. 

The workshop, conducted on May 25, 2021, was specially designed as a platform that will be used to exchange ideas between the faculties of both institutes. With the goal of working towards academic, and research projects in the Technology, and Law domain, the NLU, and IIT Delhi faculty members shared their ideas for further collaboration in various areas.

For future collaborations, the ideas shared between the institutes include the following domain; intellectual property rights, science diplomacy, criminal law, artificial intelligence, forensic science, and statistics among others.
