IIM Visakhapatnam: MoE Approves Proposal to Develop Digital Infrastructure at its Permanent Campus


Ministry of Education ( MoE) has approved IIM Visakhapatnam’s proposal to develop a digital infrastructure on its under-construction campus and has assigned INR 70 crore to the institute for the same.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Vishakhapatnam has received approval to develop infrastructure for digital education. The approval has been granted under the smart classroom initiative of the Education Ministry of India. A budget of Rs. 70 crore has been allocated for the project.

This new infrastructure will be developed and installed on IIMV 's permanent campus. Initially, as reported, this was not part of the plans for the IIMV campus but was later proposed to the Ministry as the institute saw an increase in demand for online education. IIM-V also plans to begin offering an online MBA course in the future, which will also benefit greatly from the new infrastructure being installed.

The Ministry of Education ( MoE) emphasised the need for all classrooms to be converted into smart classrooms. The Operation Digital Board (ODB)-Committee has been set up to provide the specifications for the development of these smart classrooms.

Prof. Chandrasekhar, Director if IIMV, provided further details on the Ministry's emphasis on developing online education in India. The Director mentioned that the IIMB is determined to make use of these learnings for their internal generation of resources.

The new permanent campus of IIMV remains in the initial stage of its development. The finished campus is going to cover 60000 square metres. The previous campus area has been further extended by 2,000 square metres to accommodate the new infrastructure that is being developed. A total of INR 445 Crores has been allocated to Phase-A construction.
