IGNOU Stops Providing Supplementary Answer Sheets in Term-End Exam from 2022

New Delhi: IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) has banned supplementary answer sheets in a bid to rein in ‘writing warriors.

IGNOU Stops Providing Supplementary Answer Sheets in Term-End Exam from 2022

Students who used to take heaps of supplementary sheets to write in the term-end exams of IGNOU in expectation of getting more marks would be feeling dejected.

P Sivaswaroop, Senior Regional Director of IGNOU, said, “We have increased the pages in the main answer book and stopped supplementary. In general, students feel more pages will get them more marks. But in IGNOU, we specify the word limit for every question based on the maximum marks allotted.”

As per the latest updates, Nagpur University too follows this rule. Prafulla Sabale, controller of examinations at NU said that there are approximately 38 pages in the answer book for writing answers. These many pages are more than enough for writing a 3-hour exam according to him.

IGNOU provides around 23-25 pages in the answer book. There is also a specific word limit for each question and the page suffices as per IGNOU officials.

As per many senior academics, a large number of university students resort to ‘page-filling’ when they are out of actual content. Some academics also said that students feel that evaluators only read the first and last few lines of the answer so they could write absolute rubbish in between. Some students even wrote English and Hindi songs in between answers just to increase the length of the answer.

Other academics said that once he was checking the answer sheet of a student who has written questions one after the another in a paragraph form to give length to the answer.

“So, there’s something referred to as LPG, which stands for liberalization, privatization, and globalization. The student obviously didn’t know the answer but had to write something. So, for LPG the student wrote liquefied Petroleum Gas and drew a gas cylinder. Then he wrote pages about how important LPG is for the homes and the overall economy” said Lalit Khullar, a senior academic.

Meanwhile, as per IGNOU Date Sheet 2022, term end exams for December 2021 session is underway. This year, the exams have been considerably delayed owing to the Omicron scare. The last exam will be held on April 11, 2022. IGNOU has also extended the re-registration deadline till March 31, 2022 for January session.
