New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University, IGNOU held its 36th Convocation on April 3, 2023 in New Delhi and certain other regional IGNOU centres. Students who demonstrated academic excellence received gold medals from President Droupadi Murmu.
At the 36th Convocation of IGNOU, 2,79,918 degrees, diplomas, and certificates were awarded to university students. Out of the total students who were given degrees, 55% of the graduates were female candidates for this session.
Referring to the increase in female participation, President Droupadi Murmu remarked, "I am pleased to see that among the individuals who obtained degrees, certificates, and diplomas from the institution, 55% of the students were female.”
She continued, “Over half of the pupils who have won gold medals presently are female students. The advancement of women in a variety of fields, including education, makes me glad”.
According to a news release from IGNOU, President Murmu awarded gold medals to top students during the convocation event, while Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, distributed diplomas to more than 2.5 lakh students via Digilocker.
On this occasion, she praised IGNOU's contribution to nation-building and added "According to the NEP (National Education Policy) - 2020, the country hopes to reach an enrollment rate percentage of 50% by 2035. This objective is being greatly advanced by IGNOU."
She underlined the importance of educating people in Indian languages and asserted that if learning in Indian languages is fostered, it is feasible to produce on a broad scale new scientific knowledge of the highest calibre.
According to the president, the emphasis on being proud of India's past and making Indian languages the educational medium is among the NEP-2020's many significant recommendations.
