New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry Plans to double the number of postgraduate seats in medicine over the next five years.

In order to solve India's accurate dearth of specialised medical professionals, particularly in rural and small-town areas, the decision was taken by the government.
According to the latest reports, the government intends to increase the number of seats available for the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) programme , which is regarded as being equivalent to postgraduate degrees in medicine (MS and MD ), and identify facilities where new seats can be created and relax norms for MS /MD seats.
According to a senior health ministry official, the preliminary research suggests that the number of PG seats can be doubled over the next few years and it will ensure that the majority of the MBBS pass-outs will stand a chance of securing a PG seat, which is not the case now.
