Gujarat Implemented a Bond Policy for Medical Students Applying for AIQ Seats

New Delhi: Gujarat health department has now implemented a "Bond Policy" for medical students applying for UG and PG courses on an all-India quota basis in the state-run colleges of Gujarat, following a recent announcement of the NMS regarding the schedule for admissions in postgraduate medical courses.

The INR 40 lakh bond policy was previously only required for students who qualified under the state quota. According to Vibes of India, the new circular will include applicants for medical programmes from all regions of India for the academic year 2022–2023

On September 14, 2022, the State Commissioner of Health, Medical Services, and Medical Education released the latest circular. According to the circular, students must post a bond and abide by the bond regulations to serve the required time.

State-quota PG students are now obliged by the Health Department to sign bonds for INR 40 lakhs apiece. If they fail to complete a year of service at government-run health centres in rural areas, they will be required to pay the bond amount.

Undergraduate students must also sign bonds for INR 20 lakh each, following the same pattern. According to the sources, the amount specified for the state-quota pupils is almost the same as the amount declared under the regulation.

All-India quota-based regulations apply to about 210 medical undergraduate seats and about 550 postgraduate seats. The counselling sessions will begin on September 15 and last until this month's 27th.

The circular was addressed to Gujarat's medical colleges to inform them that starting with the academic year 2022–2023, students admitted through the state's All India Quota will be subject to the same bond policy as those permitted under the state quota.
