New Delhi: The Government of India has confirmed that the Central and State governments are working together to increase the public investment in the education sector to 6% of the GDP at the earliest, as per NEP 2020.
The NEP 2020 was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 28, 2021. It is aimed to achieve 100% youth and adult literacy and to also add 3.5 crore new seats to the HEIs (Higher Education Institutions).

Replying to the queries during the question hour, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed the Rajya Sabha, that one of the primary strategies of the NEP was to provide "utmost importance to the local language or mother tongue to promote critical thinking" among students.
The entire focus of the NEP & Samagra Shiksha is improvement in the education quality with the reduced dropout ratio and Prime Minister Poshan Abhiyan is also a programme determined in that direction, Dharmendra Pradhan said.
The Minister added, "Upgradation of education quality and teachers education quality are aspects we are very focussed on, in consultation with the States. We are totally committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning process up to the expectations of the 21st century."

Junior Education Minister, Subhas Sarkar said, "The government is steadily working towards achieving the target of a public investment of 6% of the GDP in the education sector". It is the first-ever time that the budget for education(2022-23) has crossed INR 1 lakh crore, he added.
