Former UGC Vice-Chairman Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan Appointed NAAC Executive Committee Chairperson; Know More Here


New Delhi: Former Vice-Chairman of the UGC, Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Dr. Patwardhan is currently the Chairperson of the Interdisciplinary AYUSH R&D task force on COVID-19 and also a member of an advisory committee constituted by the Ministry of AYUSH. 

NAAC to Give Provisional Accreditation to 1-Year Old Institutes

For approximately 40 years, Dr. Patwardhan has contributed generously to the storehouse of academic research and policies related to institutional governance. He has experience in working with some of the most important organisations such as NITI Aayog, Planning Commission, Lancet Citizen’s Commission, National Board of Examination, UN and WHO, Geneva.

Dr. Patwardhan is also a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Medical Sciences, India. 

Earlier, he used to be a Professor and the Director at the Pune University (SPPU) and also the Vice-Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune

Dr. Patwardhan explained about his focus and area of interest. “My main area of interest will be aligning the accreditation and assessment process to the University Grants Commission policy mandate and the new National Education Policy 2020. NAAC is not new to me because I was a part of it, the UGC vice-chairman is an ex-officio member. But I will have to review the whole process now,”, as stated by him. 

Moreover, Dr. Patwardhan discussed how in near future, NAAC has to be aligned with the policies of National Education Policy for the sake of fruitful assessment.
