Education Ministry Constitutes a 22-person High-Powered IKS Committee


New Delhi: A 22-member High Powered Committee (HPC) of Indian Knowledge System has been established by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. 

The names of every member of this High Powered Committee were disclosed by the Ministry of Education in an official letter to the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). 

According to the official letter, Dr. Radhakrishnan, a former chairman of ISRO and current chairman of the Board of Governors at lTT Kanpur, is listed as the committee's chairman, Dharmendra Pradhan, the minister of education, is listed as the group's president, and Professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe is listed as the vice chairman.

Other members include Chairman, UGC; Chairman, AICTE and Director, NCERT who will be the Ex-Officio Members.

Prof. Michel Danino, llT Gandhinagar; Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, llM Indore; Prof. H. C. Varma, Former Professor of Physics, llT Kanpur; Prof. B. Mahadevan, llM Banglore; Prof. Geshe Ngawang Samten, VC, Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath; etc. are among the illustrious names on the list of members.

Commenting on being one among the 22-member committee constituted by the Education Ministry, IIM Indore Director, Professor Himanshu Rai, said that being a part of the HPC created by the MoE has given him another opportunity to contribute to the Indian education system and nation-building. 

He added that with the 22-member committee, they shall direct the IKS, provide guidance, carry out the committee's purpose, and contribute to the development of a proud nation.

Following are the functions of the High Powered Committee (HPC) are:

  • Guidance for the IKS's operational policy framework.
  • Facilitating collaboration between the Inter Ministry of Education (MoE) and Inter ministers.
  • Determine the required financial resources, and make them available.
  • Accept the implementation committee's recommendations and judgments. 
  • Based on the recommendation of the implementation committee, action plan and deliverables, project the budgetary requirements to MoE.
  • Any other functions as decided from time to time.

The letter revealed that the High Powered Committee (HPC) will be an apex body that meets once every three months or as determined by the committee's president to oversee results, lead the implementation committee, and report on progress and results. 

The letter said that it will replace the formerly established High-Level Committee of the Indian Knowledge Systems (lKS).
