New Delhi: Delhi University Vice-Chancellor has announced to begin new engineering courses and hostels from the university’s Foundation Day, May 1, 2022. The announcement was made on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
As a part of centenary celebration plans, the Vice-Cancellor of Delhi University announced construction of new hostels, new buildings, commencement of new courses, setting up of Centenary ASEAN Studies Centre, launching of commemorative stamps and coins.
“Centenary celebrations are a historic event in itself. Such opportunities come after a long wait after a hundred years. It is a matter of pride for all the people associated with the University that we are getting the privilege of being a part of this historic event,” as stated by the DU VC.
As per the announcement, for the first time, DU will start technical courses like BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication and Electrical Engineering. Additionally, there will be new UG and PG Courses in Management and Economics in the School of Open Learning (SOL).
The University is also to start certificate and diploma programmes to make the learns more job ready.
“The students who could not complete their degrees will be given a centenary chance to complete their studies. For this, they need to register on the university portal”, the VC also added to his statement.
Kratika Khinchi, a Gargi College student’s design of the Centenary tagline and university logo was also released by the VC for this occasion.
The University is planning to build two brand new hostels within two years with a bed capacity of 800-1000 beds, especially for the outstation candidates. A new building for the Faculty of Technology and Academic and Administrative Blocks will also be constructed.
The year-long activities will also include adoption of a centenary village for the purpose of maintaining more social welfare-oriented goals, health awareness checkup and blood donation camps, etc.
“The year shall also see the organisation and creation of some documentaries on the University, its history through light and sound show, the launch of DU Studio, Litfests, book melas, the exhibition of rare books and manuscripts, organisation of various seminars, conferences, workshops and lecture series on the international level, signing of MoUs and international exchange programmes, Research & Development, innovative practices and other similar activities,”, as confirmed by the VC.
