New Delhi: The Executive Council of Delhi University (DU) has approved the proposal for considering Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate admissions from 2022-23, and not the cut-offs as earlier.
As per the latest updates, students aspiring for admission in Delhi University must clear Class 12 and Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the next academic session 2022-23.
The proposal to include CUET for UG Admissions, was passed at the DU Executive Council meeting on Friday, March 25, 2022. The Executive Council is DU’s highest decision-making body, and policies are executed after they are approved by the council.
Also for the unversed, UGC had released a notice on March 21, stating that central universities will provide admission in undergraduate courses through Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The applications are slated to begin from April 2022.
Meanwhile, DU has set a rule for CUET, that students can only appear in topics that they have cleared in Class 12.
Proposal for Delhi School of Analytics Passed at DU’s Council Meeting
The proposal to establish Delhi School of Analytics (DSA) under Institutes of Eminence was also passed by the council. The DSA will offer short and long-term certificate courses, diploma and degree programmes to enhance and upgrade the business analytical skills of aspiring students.
Despite some members showing their dissent, the council accepted a proposal to borrow money from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA). A proposal of INR 1,075.40 crore will be submitted by the university to HEFA for infrastructure development and the creation of capital assets.
According to the HEFA funding pattern, Delhi University will have to repay the loan in 20 bi-annual instalments in 10 years. The dissenting members were apprehensive that the HEFA proposal will make the public funded university shift from a grant-based model to loan-based model of financing and lead the university towards a debt trap.
Further, the dissenting members strongly opposed the "dangerous movement towards privatisation and the steep hike in the fees of the students" and said taking a loan was "unacceptable".
In another development, the executive council members of DU raised the issue of the College Of Art not starting its admission process, following which it was decided that a letter will be sent to its principal demanding an explanation in that regard.
The varsity was directed that the office of the lieutenant governor had in-principle approved the merger of College of Art with Ambedkar University, subject to its de-affiliation from DU. However, the varsity has not approved the de-affiliation as its executive council, the highest decision-making body, opposed the move.
Moreover, the executive council members cleared the proposal to establish an Institute of Nanomedical Sciences (INMS).
Some executive council members in the meeting appealed that a one time regulation for absorption of all ad hoc/temporary teachers of DU should be introduced and that a committee should be constituted to implement this.
