New Delhi: Delhi University is now preparing to offer paid internships opportunities to students of undergraduate and postgraduate programs under the DU Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) 2022 from the academic session of 2022-23.
As per Delhi University , internship opportunities will be offered to students throughout the academic year and will be available for those who are pursuing their full-time regular courses at undergraduate or postgraduate levels from any affiliated college of DU.
With this initiative, the university aims to impart holistic education to college students in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It will train students on soft and hard skills required in industry and real-world fields and provide them with industry exposure.
Informing about the internships offered, VC Yogesh Singh stated that, “the scheme is a unique experience in helping students broaden their mental faculties by learning skills and inculcating a sense of responsibility towards the university system".
"It is a method to intertwine holistic knowledge with the innovative avenues of earning while learning the nitty gritty of academics and administration" he further added.
These internship programs will be available to students on the basis of the requirements of departments, centers, and affiliated colleges of Delhi University . Only those students who are currently pursuing their education at university will be eligible to apply for internships.
The selection of candidates for the program will be done on the basis of their performance in the interview round. The total proposed number of interns under the DU Vice-Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) 2022 - summer and regular internship are 200.
The officials informed that "It will pave the way to achieve the objectives of Samagra Shiksha (holistic education) enlisted in the NEP 2020. It will allow young students to be associated with the university's work for mutual benefit".
Under the DU VCIS 2022, the summer internship will be offered during the summer for a duration of eight weeks with 15-20 hours of work per week while the regular internship will be available throughout the academic sessions with 8-10 hours of work per week.
The document mentioned that "VCIS can be availed by a student only once during a course of study at the University of Delhi. The maximum period of an internship shall not exceed six months under any circumstances from the time of joining".
It adds, "the regular intern will receive the striped of 5,000 per month while the summer intern will get Rs 10,000 per month. The stipend will be enhanced by five percent each financial year".
After completing the internship tenure, candidates will be provided with a certificate from DSW along with an appraisal report from the concerned departments of Delhi University . To apply for these internships, students can apply online through the official DU website; du.ac.in.
