Delhi University to Launch Centre for Disabilities Studies; Read Details Here

New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) is preparing to launch a new Center for Disabilities Studies to offer better education opportunities to students with disabilities. The centre will offer several courses including courses related to computers and skill enhancement for students.

As per Delhi University, the centre will aim to make education and administration available to students. The centre will offer various opportunities to students with disabilities including courses with a focus on skill enhancement, sign language and computer learning skills.

Informing about this initiative, Bipin Kumar Tiwari, Equal Opportunity Cell, DU said, “Delhi University is starting a centre for disabilities studies under which several courses will be started. The focus of the centre will be to make education and administration more inclusive".

He further informed that the centre will especially focus on sign language and several skills enhancement and computer learning courses for interested students. The details were shared during a webinar organised by DU to apprise students about the new reservation policies.

In the webinar, the officials further informed that five percent of the total sanctioned strength in each Delhi University course offered at various affiliated colleges is reserved for candidates who belong to the ‘person with benchmark disability (PwBD)’ category.

The university will make a separate merit list for DU UG Admissions 2022 to shortlisted candidates under the PwBD quota. Candidates will be considered for admission seats under the relevant categories only if they have the valid certificates required by the authority.

“In addition, a grievance redressal sub-committee for candidates belonging to backwards and minority categories will also be established,” Bipin Kumar Tiwari further added.

Delhi University is organising a series of webinars on UG Admissions 2022 process for interested candidates. From this session, admission to UG courses in various central and state universities including DU will be based on CUET UG 2022 scores instead of class 12th marks.

Informing about the admissions, DU officials said, “The candidates who have successfully completed their application process in Phase I must proceed to make their preferences for programs and colleges. The candidates who have yet not completed Phase I can now do so and proceed to Phase II”.

“It is advisable to choose the maximum number of preferences as adding/editing the programs and colleges after the deadline for the preference filling phase will not be allowed” the registrar further added.
