Delhi University’s Standing Committee Passes Draft Syllabus of 19 FYUP Courses

Informing about the approval, DU Dean of Colleges Balaram Pani said that the draft syllabi have been passed by the standing committee of Delhi University, which was prepared by 19 departments for the upcoming academic session.

As per the reports, the university is planning to clear the syllabi for all courses through the Standing Committee in the next three to four days. The university is expected to wrap up the syllabus for the FYUP first semester in the next 15 days.

The draft was passed even when four members dissented against the resolution. The dissenting members pointed out the "procedural lapse of providing insufficient time for minute observation" of the syllabi of 19 subjects.

The opposing members highlighted the "procedural lapse of providing insufficient time for minute observation" of the syllabi of 19 subjects. They said that intending only on the content of the first semester syllabi would be a "futile task".

DU officials further stated that the committee should examine and evaluate the papers of all four years, it wouldn't be possible to provide comments on the disjunctions, overlapping, continuity, or discontinuity of papers in the following semesters.

The dissenting members stated that the representatives felt a general apprehension of loss of rigour and mixture of content, which was not satisfactorily addressed by the authorities.

With this approval, the draft will be presented to the Academic Council (AC) and the Executive Council. Earlier, Delhi University approved the adoption of the NEP and the four-year undergraduate programs (FYUP) from the academic year 2022-23.

The Executive Council of DU passed the draft Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) in February 2022, which was composed in line with the NEP, for the 2022-23 academic year.

Meanwhile, the university has released the DU academic calendar for the academic session 2022-23. As per the schedule released, the odd semester of academics is scheduled to commence on July 20, 2022.
