New Delhi: Delhi Sports University is all set to provide degrees to help sportspeople get job opportunities, says Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking at a ceremony to offer financial assistance and support to the sportspersons, Arvind Kejriwal said the players at the Delhi Sports University will be provided degrees in their respective sports such as BA in kabaddi, wrestling and cricket among others, which will help them get jobs if they intend to work.
According to the CM, the Delhi government has eliminated almost three difficulties faced by the sportspersons: lack of facilities, lack of monetary support, and political intervention in the selection processes.
It is prevalent for the sportspersons to face a dilemma between career and sports, that is they have to sacrifice sports for studies or vice versa. However, if they are unable to achieve success in sports, it becomes challenging for them to get a good job.
Consequently, if the sportspersons have a bachelor’s degree in their hand, then they need not worry to answer when the employer's questions about their educational qualifications because, they'll get a degree of their choice in sports, making them eligible to apply for any job.
Further, the Chief Minister said that he intends that every athlete achieves success and makes the country proud, however, if they fall short, there should be other avenues of employment for them.
He concluded by saying that it is a new experiment which is the first of its kind in India and many such experiments are in the pipeline and that the national capital will make the country proud as the infrastructure will assist the athletes in achieving great results and success.
With the help of this scheme, financial assistance will be given to all the top-level sportspersons for receiving training and coaching and to maintain their dietary supplements in order to compete in the international tournaments and championships to make India, a top sporting nation in the near future.
