Delhi Government to Open New Medical College in Dwarka, Admissions to commence from 2025


New Delhi: The Government of Delhi has announced that a ‘world-class’ maternal and child care medical hospital will be built on the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in Dwarka Sector 9 to boost the healthcare workforce. This 600-bed hospital will have state-of-the-art facilities which will make sure that proper infant care is provided.


Admission to this new medical college will be based on the NEET Examination by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The first session of this college is expected to start from 2025 and it will have a seat capacity of 125 students. 

Making the announcement, Delhi Health Minister, Satyendar Jain said, "The Arvind Kejriwal government is working very hard to ensure that better facilities are provided to citizens and to also reinforce the public health infrastructure."

"The number of beds in government hospitals will be increased rapidly within the next few years. We are also working to expand the capacity of various hospitals. The Kejriwal government is committed to its goal & is dedicated to serve the people, which is why very affordable and quality healthcare services are being provided to the people of Delhi," he added. 

As per the official statement by the Delhi Health Department, "The government has decided to set up a medical college with the Indira Gandhi Hospital. This campus will be built in Sector 17, & it will boost the healthcare infrastructure of the city along with helping Delhi to emerge as a leader in the field of medical education."

Dr B L Chaudhary, Director of the hospital, said, "The country needs good doctors and keeping this in mind, it was decided to open a medical school in Dwarka Sector-17 which will be based on modern technology and health services. This will benefit meritorious students and also the society as a whole. Students who cannot afford fees of private medical colleges will be able to fulfill their dreams in the medical field by getting a chance to secure a seat in this government medical college."

The introduction of numerous courses in medical and health sciences is being considered for this medical college, and as per the planning the construction of the campus is expected to be completed by 2025, the department said.
