New Delhi: The Central Government has approved a total of 630 PG medical seats at various medical institutions throughout the State of Andhra Pradesh, for those medical aspirants seeking postgraduate medical education in AP.

According to the latest reports, the Union Government has confirmed that it has sent a copy of the order with the addition of these 630 seats to the State's 11 medical colleges. Despite the State Government urging the Centre to increase altogether 688 PG medical seats, the Union Government has given its approval for 630 seats.
These extra seats have been authorised for a variety of medical specialties, including microbiology, pathology, forensic science, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, paediatrics, ENT, psychiatry, gastroenterology, endocrinology, neurology, anatomy, radio diagnosis, pulmonary medicine, pharmacology, forensic medicine, general medicine, orthopaedics, biochemistry, community medicine, radiology, radiotherapy, general surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, emergency medicine and other courses.
The latest reports reveal that the newly acquired seats have boosted the number of seats at Kurnool Medical College (KMC) by 41, Government Medical College, Anantapur, by 65, Government Medical College, Kadapa, by 69, and SV Medical College, Tirupati, by 75.
Further, 79 more seats have been allowed for the Government Medical College in Ongole. Five seats have been added to the ACSR Government Medical College, 34 medical seats have been approved for Guntur Medical College, 71 seats have been added to Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada, and 46 seats have been approved for Ranjarayana Medical College in Kakinada.
The Government Medical College in Srikakulam has gained another 17 seats, and Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam has gained 128 more seats.
Dr. Mahabub, the combined Krishna district president of the YSRCP's medical wing, commented on this and said that the Nadu-Nedu Program's improved infrastructural conditions in government hospitals were the reason the Central Government gave its approval.
Expressing his delight over the increase in PG medical seats, he further stated that the State Government is prioritising health and education and that it has filled the open positions for teaching and non-teaching staff.
He added that the infrastructure improvements made to medical colleges in accordance with the Union Government's directives will be helpful to the students.
As per the information shared to the parliament by the minister of state for health, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, there were a total of 2371 PG medical seats in Andhra Pradesh, including 1065 seats at government medical colleges and 1306 seats at private medical colleges.
Prior to this, it was reported that the State had indicated a desire to add 600–700 PG seats throughout Andhra Pradesh. In this regard, around 131 additional PG medical seats in 27 specialties were requested by the State from the Andhra Medical College.
