Central Govt to Reserve 5 MBBS Seats For Wards of Covid Warriors


New Delhi Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Central Government has decided to reserve 5 MBBS seats for Wards of Covid Warriors. The Ministry has defined Public Health Care providers who have been in direct contact with and care of Covid-19 patients, and therefore at high risk of being impacted by it as Covid Warriors. 

Mr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister commented that this decision has been made to dignify and honour the noble contribution made by COVID-19 warriors who have lost their lives due to the infection or on account of COVID-19-related duty.

Main Highlights

Staff at private hospitals, retired, volunteer, local urban bodies, contractual/daily wage, outsourced staff hired by States, Central hospitals, autonomous hospitals, AIIMS and INIs are also included.

According to the notice published by Medical Counselling Committee, all candidates who appeared in and qualified in NEET 2021, and are Wards of deceased covid warriors can avail of this benefit.

However, their applications will have to be routed through the respective Directorate of Medical Education (DME)/ Directorate Health Services (DHS) of their domicile states. Any application that is sent directly to the MCC of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will not be accepted.

The final selections will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) via online counselling on the basis of rank secured by the applicant in NEET 2021.

An earlier notice by MCC had specified that the last date for sending an application by Wards of Covid Warriors is March 17, 2022. But this deadline has now been extended to March 28, 2022, by 5 pm.
