Central Govt. Launches 'Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav' on Women’s Day 2022


New Delhi: The Government of India has launched the ‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav’ scheme to mark International Women’s Day - March 8, 2022, for getting back adolescent girls out of school into the system of education. Launching of the scheme has been initiated by the Ministry of Women & Child Development in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

Indevar Pandey, the Women & Child Development Secretary has stated the target to get adolescent girls back into formal education in accordance with the Right to Education Act would be met through the scheme.

Further, it has been reported the number of adolescent girls out of school visiting the Anganwadis for nutrition, education on nutrition and learning new skills are only four lakhs as understood from the data available. 

Pandey hopefully asserted that the scheme would get all out-of-school adolescent girls back into schooling.

‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav' scheme: Programmes

The Ministry of Women & Child Development has initiated programs for the upliftment of the out-of-school adolescent girls through the Anganwadi system supervised by education officers at district and block levels

As per an official statement, the scheme is launched as the ‘Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG)’ for the welfare of out-of-school adolescent girls. However, the effectiveness of the scheme is below par. 

As stated by Pandey, the scheme ‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav’ launched through Poshan 2 and Saksham Anganwadi is aimed to address the issues of the ‘Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG)’ by empowering more women through education as the number of girls benefitting under ‘Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG)’ is decreasing.

‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav' Scheme: Age Groups

Girls in the age group of 14-18 years would be under the ambit of the scheme, as per the statement made by Indevar Pandey. The scheme pertaining to Anganwadi boarding would not cover girls in the age group of 11-14 years, which will also be made sure not only by the Northeastern states but also other aspirational districts.
