New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved an MoU between India and the UK about mutual recognition of academic qualifications to promote student mobility. The Mutual Recognition of Qualifications between India and UK aims to promote academic collaboration and student mobility, adding that the MoU aims to facilitate the mutual recognition of educational qualifications, periods of study undertaken.

MoU Between India and UK: Highlights
- A new MoU was signed between the UK and India on the educational programs, structures, and standards and also to maximize the flexibility of the students and the professionals
- Professional degrees along with Architecture, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Para-Medical Education, and Pharmacy do not come under this MoU
- The MoU will ease the establishment of Joint and Dual degree courses in Higher Education within the two countries for the globalization of education
- The One year Master’s Program in the UK is been approved as recognized by both countries
“The Union Cabinet in its meeting held on 07.09.2022 chaired by PM Narendra Modi granted ex post facto approval for the MoU between India and the government of the UK and Northern Ireland on mutual recognition of academic qualifications signed on 25.04.2022," an official statement said.
Professional degrees like Engineering, Medicine, Nursing and Para-Medical Education, Pharmacy, Law, and Architecture are out of the purview of this MoU, according to an official statement.
This MoU aims to promote Exchange of Information Education, Capacity Development of Technical and vocational Education and Training (TVET) teaching staff, Facilitation of academic collaboration between Higher Education Institutions in both the countries for offering Twinning, Joint Degree and Dual Degree Programmes and any such other areas agreed upon, the government said.
The MoU will also promote bilateral exchange of information about the educational structure, programmes and standards and increase the mobility of students and professionals between the two countries. It will also encourage other areas of cooperation in the education sector and the development of study programmes as mutually agreed upon by the parties.
