Dr Pradeepta Kishore Sahoo is the Principal of Haldia Law College, Medinipur, West Bengal. He has completed his UG and PG studies in the field of Law and started his teaching profession as a lecturer. Recently, he was selected as a Research Supervisor, and three Scholars are working under his supervision. 

He has been an integral part of various academic institutions all over India, during his career and aims to enhance it further. Over the last decade, he has developed unparalleled expertise in this area.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Keeping myself engaged in legal education is my primary focus”

I am dedicated to the development of legal education, and that's the main factor keeping me engaged in it. In my opinion, legal education will reach its zenith if we teach the students through practical exercises. I always guide the teaching faculties and advise them to follow innovative teaching methodology. 


What is your philosophy of leadership? 

“My leadership style is one that focuses on bringing college and students together”

My philosophy of leadership is “Unity is Strength”. Honestly, if we do hard work for students then they will showcase their best achievements. My leadership style is to work together for the benefit of college as well as students. In all my efforts, I strive to achieve better results for the students

“College professors are constantly updating their teaching methods and themselves”

The faculty members always give their best efforts and take proper steps to create a healthy academic atmosphere. There is a research culture and aptitude where students can develop their inherent abilities. The college has a highly motivated, qualified and dedicated teaching faculty. They are forever using their ingenuity to devise ways and means for making the UGC curriculum as interesting as possible. edDetail discussion in classes benefits the students and teachers alike. Though there are faculty members in each functional committee, students are given complete freedom to chart out and conduct programmes. How does your college help students to clear various academic examinations?

“Training and academic sessions to clear various professional exams”

The college strives to instil civic responsibility in the minds of students through extension programs and value-based courses. This will enable them to become socially aware and responsible lawyers. The college takes efforts to create a learning environment and provides opportunities to appear in competitive examinations like the judicial exam, Law officers’ exam. etc. The college conducts the pre-university test for students' benefit. The students' learning outcomes through this pre-university test play an indispensable role in creating institutions of excellence. 


Which responsibilities do you perceive you have to the College and students?

“To become a connecting link between the students and the administrative bodies”

My role and responsibilities towards college are to bridge the gap between the management and the students and be open to changes. As a mediator between teachers and students, I play an essential role in resolving any conflicts that arise.


What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“To enhance the curriculum and become a top-rated Law college”

In 2019, our college got the 2nd rank in the Top ten law colleges ranking in India, according to the Higher Education Review Magazine. Besides students from West Bengal, students from Bihar, Tripura, Jharkhand, U.P, Assam, Andaman and Nicobar also prefer this institution for further study. Our LL.M. program is expanding. There has been an increase in the seats from a total of 25 to 40, due to the demand of students. Our expansion has only begun.


What has been your vision for the university? 

“To establish this College as one of the highly trusted academic institutions in the region”

When I joined Haldia Law College my vision was to make it one of the best colleges in the eastern part of India. Now it becomes true that it is the best law college in the university as well as the eastern part of India. I will try to fulfil my dream to enhance the name and fame of the college.

What are some of the biggest challenges for higher education in the current scenario?

"The challenges of the proper placement and the development of higher education"

The biggest challenges ahead of us are proper placement in particular and the development of higher education in general. Also, accreditation and branding to ensure quality standards and the Gross enrolment pattern which is decreasing in higher education enrolment, are few other issues.
