Being the Placement manager at JSHM, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To provide students with the aspirations they seek to accomplish as professionals”

My role is concentrated on providing training and placement opportunities to the students of our institute. My responsibility begins with listening to understand the aspirations of students for their future in reference to a professional career. I also believe that students always seek a friend and a mentor in their faculty. So I feel I must be one for all the students at my institute.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

“The college is based on the course that works on a practical segment itself”

Hotel management education is practical oriented and we at Jindal School ensure that our students are involved in all aspects of their learning. Apart from practical classes in college, the curriculum has events that are organized by students. This allows them to apply the knowledge gained in classrooms at a practical level. We also encourage our students to participate in outdoor catering events and to apply for part-time jobs. Having work-related experiences enhances their skills, boosts their self-confidence, and also makes them aware of current industry trends and expectations.

What are the best practices followed by the Jindal School of Hotel Management, which helps the students gain the necessary skills during the internship?

“Association with the right organizations for the students”

For an internship to be meaningful, employers have to understand their obligation to mentor and educate the intern and not just look at the interns as a source of cheap labor. One of the ways we vet employers is by meeting with them before we partner with them. During the conversation, we discuss both the mentorship and the development of the student. This practice of ours has helped us to build strong partnerships with like-minded industry colleagues. Also, we keep in constant touch with our students and visit them during their internships.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

“Aptitude designs the best career for a student to lead a life”

Work in a job that you have a talent for, and you love doing. Do concentrate on your material goals but do not forget to have a life! Go for the career you have a fervor for.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

“The overall support to their academia and emotional self, offer reassurance of a successful life”

We groom our students not just for a career but for a successful and happy life. Keeping this in mind we guide and prepare our students right from day one. We encourage our students to be proficient not only in their academics but also to be aware and knowledgeable about society in general. We encourage them to participate in competitions and other social activities. This improves their confidence level in their abilities, helps them develop excellent interpersonal skills, and also provides a glimpse of the challenges they will face when they step out into the job market.
