MABS conducted Seminar on ‘How To Get Placement Ready

Date: February 10, 2023
In its first event of its kind, Maharaja Agrasen Business School hosted a lecture titled "Emtalks Live: How to Get Workplace Ready." On January 19th, over 800 students gathered in the school's auditorium.
There were two parts to the event. The first session's topics and discussions centred on how India may better attract and retain top talent from around the world. Speakers included Dr. Nand Kishore Garg, Founder Chairman & Chief Adviser at MATES; Professor Duncan Bentley, Vice-Chancellor & President of Federation University, Australia; and Dr. Manish Malhotra, Chairman & CEO of Employability.life, United Kingdom. In the second meeting, we talked about how schooling may help graduates get jobs. Ms. Carolyn Chong, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global and Engagement) at Federation University, Australia; Mr. Supriyo Chaudhari, Dr. Sanjiv Marwah, Director, MABS; Mr. Vinit Sinha, President of Employability, Director of Cybersecurity at Mastercard; Pro Vice-Chancellor at Chandigarh University; and Prof. (Dr.) Manpreet Singh Manna, were the panellists for this session. Ms. Neha Khanna, Executive Producer and senior anchor, WION, served as moderator for both panels.
Dr. Nand Kishore Garg said that India needs to take a more global approach to developing its potential if it wants to produce the most productive graduates in the world. Among other important topics, he emphasised the importance of providing students with opportunities to increase their employability and developing optimal designs for the educational institutions of the future, such as the co-operative model. When I graduated from high school in 1972, he stated he never imagined the world would change so dramatically in the subsequent 50 years. He went on to elaborate on the meaning and purpose of India's educational system. He described the extraordinary technological and social developments he has seen over his lifetime. He then compared the requirements of India and Australia, arguing that India must become more self-sufficient through the development of its own innovative workforce, entrepreneurial culture, and cutting-edge technologies. He discussed the problem of "brain drain" and the current government-enforced emphasis on making educational programmes more applicable to the business world. Dr. Nand Kishore Garg argued that the development of excellent human values should take centre stage in educational systems. A good human being is the most important thing a student can be, he said, because people are invaluable and the key to keeping the peace.
According to Professor Duncan Bentley, the Vice-Chancellor of Federation University Australia, the internationally acclaimed co-operative education model will be integrated into all Federation programmes beginning in 2025. We have worked with India for many years and hope that our partnership will help it become the global centre of excellence in skills development. In addition, students who qualify will be able to travel to Australia's largest university technology park, located on the Federation campus in Ballarat, Victoria, to see the IBM emerging technologies hub and participate in research and development projects.
According to Dr. Manish Malhotra, CEO of Employability.life, India's young participation in productive and meaningful activities is crucial to the country's ability to achieve its goal of developing a $5 Trillion economy. Employability.life aims to equip students with the tools they need to guide their country towards this vision by collaborating with the country's most innovative educational institutions and its global network of entrepreneurs, educators, and employers.
Director at MasterCard Vinit Sinha spoke for industry, saying that employers value people who can work well with others. No, the problem lies with us rather than you. What you are learning today will serve as a solid foundation for the rest of your life. However, you will need to constantly improve yourself over the following ten to fifteen years. He said that while the basics are still taught to pupils, new skills and knowledge will be needed in the future; nonetheless, this does not mean that we should ignore the value of the basics, since a strong foundation makes for a sturdy tree. In addition, he gave pupils guidance on improving their marketability by teaching them valuable skills.
According to Maharaja Agrasen Business School Director and Professor (Dr.) Sanjiv Marwah, there is a lead-follow cycle between businesses and universities.
The relationship between business and universities needs to shift from a donor-taker dynamic to a more collaborative one.
Recent pandemic years have accelerated the obsolescence of these abilities. India and academics each have its own roles to play, but working together can better link students to the real world through real-world initiatives. Although education and industry each play an essential part, he argued that the two must collaborate to give students the kind of hands-on training and real-world experience they can't obtain from a classroom. He discussed how technology improvements are shortening the useful life of skills and how the Maharaja Agrasen Business School offers a number of supplementary programmes to help students improve their marketability.
Federation University's pro-vice chancellor Carolyn Chong remarked that with the passage of time, the university had seen changes and underlying difficulties brought to the forefront. A number of previously unaddressed concerns are now being raised and ranked for attention. People are always discussing the environment, sustainability, and the effects of global warming. As a country, India is making tremendous strides forward in development and progress.
The other speakers all emphasised the importance of forming modern partnerships to help Indian students get the skills they need to be competitive in the global job market.
