Being a Head of the English Department, what are your responsibilities towards the students?

"To guide faculty members for departmental activities and mentor my students to resolve their queries"

Although I am working as the Head of the English Department at KROS, my responsibilities are not restricted to this role only and as and when required, I work as a teacher, mentor to my students and friend to my fellow colleagues. And being the head, I need to ensure the smooth functioning of my department by maintaining a healthy environment for students and giving them quality education which will be beneficial in their real life and industrial world.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"By being a good listener and an easily approachable person for them"

My approach is very unbiased. I listen carefully and consider the perspective of both students and faculties while interacting with them or taking their suggestions. And I believe that communication should be transparent enough if you really want your team to grow personally and professionally, and I use the same strategy here in my college so that relationships between students and faculties remain consistent.

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"By conducting events like seminars, training programs and mentoring sessions"

We frequently organize events like seminars, webinars and practical learning programs to expose the students to the real world and help them understand how the industry works and what are their expectations for today's generation. In addition to this, we also mentor our students as and when required to help them achieve their future goals.

How does your department prepare students for higher education and placements?

"By rigorously analysing and updating our courses and teaching methodologies"

In Nagaland, the education industry is growing due to which new opportunities are coming. Also we have modified our courses so that our students can compete confidently in the outside world for their dream jobs sng higher education.

How do you prepare your students to cope up with this competitive world?

"By giving them quality education and amenities despite hurdles we face everyday"

If we compare the education system of major cities of our country like New Delhi, Bhopal, Lucknow, Mumbai and Bangalore, but north eastern cities still need investment in terms of infrastructure and facilities. We have the zeal to work but at the same time environmental drawbacks are there in terms of IT technology and connectivity which has kept us away from matching the standards of the country. So we are trying our best to give quality education to our students. In between all these hurdles.

Which extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of students?

"Activities like carnivals, philosophical dramas and workshops are conducted by us"

We organize a lot of co-curricular activities like carnivals, workshops, drama and acts. From philosophical drama to ancient wars, from inks to materials, we as an institution try to put all the basic and core value of literature through these activities.

What are the challenges you are facing to uplift the education quality of your department?

"We face many hurdles in terms of infrastructure and facilities due to our geographical location"

As I mentioned earlier, compared to other parts of the country we face a lot of geographical and modernization problems. Also the pandemic has given us a lot of difficulties to tackle. Still we are progressing slowly and steadily and giving the best possible essential ambiance to students for their growth and development.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

"Keep yourself happy and keep upgrading your skills"

The best piece of advice that I have for my students is to keep yourself as happy as you can because your money does not define your success, your happiness does. This world is full of materialistic things, find things you love to do and keep living your dream. Also be a good person and contribute to the country by any means possible.
