Dr Ila Shukla is the HOD at Harsha Institute of Pharmacy, Lucknow. With a rich experience in the field of Pharmacology, she has completed her Ph.D. She aims to develop new methods to keep students updated with the dynamic changes of their field.

What are your responsibilities towards the students and the management of this college?

“Ensuring the good professional practice, standards, and quality of teaching”

Being a HOD of the Department of Pharmacy I have the following roles and responsibilities :

  • Advising and contributing to curriculum development at school and system level under the guidance of the respective Education Officer.
  • Setting examination papers, co-ordinating marking schemes and moderating examinations and assessment processes.
  • Ensuring the timely and adequate provision of textbooks, materials, and equipment required for effective teaching.
  • Ensuring that the maintenance and upkeep of equipment related to the subject at college is regularly carried out. 
  • Preparing specifications and budgets for the requirements of the subject-specific teaching tools.
  • Holding and leading regular departmental meetings.

How do you bring in a practical approach towards the pharmacy subjects?

“Explaining the practical relevance and implication of a particular activity helps majorly”

I brief my students about the applications of their subjects in there day to day life. Once they get to understand the given subject, they realize the significance of it. This is how they develop a practical approach in the pharmaceutical industry.

What are the best practices offered by the department to enhance the students skills?

“Working models, Projects and hands-on workshops to develop soft skills among students”

We adopt several practices to enlighten the academic life of our students. We organise regular workshops for students and ask them to prepare working models along with presentations. This hellps enhance their communication and planning skills. Also, we plan interactive sessions with industry experts. This helps them develop clear concepts about their subjects and also make studies innovative.

Do you organize any extracurricular activities to enhance students skills?

“Cultural, Social and academic events are regularly organized”

We organise cultural fests that include dramas, dances, debates, and other theme-based events. This helps students realize their inbuilt talents. The theme-based events comprise of events that focus on societal issues. 

What has been your vision for this college?

“To be able to bridge the gap between Students and faculty, to allow free-flow of knowledge” 

I wish to establish a strong connection between the management, administration and student bodies of this college. I adopt different methods of teaching, give realistic examples and ask the students to share their difficulties with me. This helps us develop a strong teacher-student bond that makes it easier for students to convey their thoughts during learning.

How does your college ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Ethical lab practices and a good infrastructure ensures excellent learning”

We are proud to have almost all the major instruments required for academic practices at the B.Pharm level. Students can learn all about the ethical practices of our field. We organize sessions to teach our students how to present themselves and their work, in the job industries. Moreover, we also teach them regarding good laboratory practices and good work ethics.

What valuable advice would you give the students for a prosperous career ahead?

“Be focused, have patience and follow the path of hardwork throughout your life”

The only advice for students is to learn fearlessly. Don't fear the future hurdles, and give your best efforts to the present. Most important is to learn to face failures. Always remember ‘Success comes to those who do not break under the pressure and keep going’.
