SITS Hyderabad

Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharya is working as the Principal of Siddhartha Institute of Technology and Sciences for the past few years. He has been full-time in Academics for the past decade; he has been into various teaching, non-teaching, and administrative positions in various colleges and Institutions across India.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Education is considered to be one of the noblest of professions”

Educators build the lives of student’s right from a very young age till they get settled in their chosen professions. The profession of teaching is becoming more interesting. With the advent of new technology, teachers can carry out research work and reach out to students like never before. Students are getting access to the best courses from the comfort of their homes at the click of a button. All this makes the profession of teaching a brilliant and evolving profession with much to look forward to.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“Teamwork and participative leadership is the best for an institution”

My management style is strictly inclusive. The job of a leader today is not to create followers but to create more leaders by setting them a goal and an example. Over my career, I have always received excellent ideas and suggestions from my colleagues and subordinates. There may be a lack of maturity in the way these ideas are presented, but once refined, they become true game-changers. In reality, teachers who teach particular subjects are the best judges for pedagogical methodologies to be used for those subjects and their ideas are always welcome. This also helps to motivate the employees and students to come up with innovative ideas without fear.

The education systems in India and other foreign countries are structured very differently. In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here in your institute?

“Benefits of being an affiliated institute for better exposure and activity-based learning”

India is one of the very few countries that still have an affiliation system for educational institutes. We see this as an advantage and make the most of it through an innovative curriculum design process. Because of the phenomenal advances in collaboration and internet technology, every faculty member and student has access to courses taught by teachers from globally accredited institutes and industries. We encourage them to learn from these sources. We also support experimentation where anyone who fails in an experiment is encouraged to find the fault and re-try after due corrective measures. We constantly try to emphasize that technology should always be used for the betterment of humanity and support application-oriented projects.

How does the curriculum of Siddhartha Institute of Technology and Sciences ensure the best practice of industry?

“No technology institute can exist today without an effective collaboration with the industry”

  • We have MoU’s with 40+ companies in various fields with the primary aim of information exchange.
  • We have weekly programs wherein an expert from the industry conducts a session for students and/or faculty members on a contemporary topic.
  • We make internships mandatory for all students during their summer vacations.
  • Students start participating in industry-driven skill development training programs right from their first year.
  • A fully equipped training and placement cell is in charge of ensuring that over the 4 years, each student reaches his or her top potential so that they can get into their dream jobs.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 5 years?

“Advancement of technology and structured academia for the students to get the best”

Technology is progressing at a rapid pace and our main focus is on the adoption of the latest technology to ensure effective knowledge sharing. Over the next 5 years, we have to progress at a breakneck speed to ensure that we catch up with the latest knowledge so that students are equipped for their job interviews. This can be achieved only through effective curriculum planning in close collaboration with the industry. At the same time, we need to sponsor application-oriented research for faculty members and post-graduate students to create innovative solutions to existing technical issues.

What do you see as your Institute’s greatest strengths?

“Quality education for the students with the best infrastructure and resources”

Very strong-willed management that works with a single goal of improvement in the quality of education is our greatest strength. We are also very proud of the way we work with the industry that ensures effective knowledge sharing and jobs for our students after graduation.

What would you like people to know about your College they may not know?

“Academics is not only what we offer, but we also have much more to engage our students”

Our college is not only about studies and technology education. We ensure our students and faculty members live a full life as long as they are associated with us. We plan co-curricular and extra-curricular events regularly and encourage everyone to participate. Sports events are given high priority as they inculcate the values of healthy competition. Cultural activities ensure that all of us are in constant touch with our roots. We are very active in the social sector and work with several local villages to provide basic education and facilities.

Any message you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Risk-taking and experimenting lead you to success”

One aspect that I see lacking in the current generation of students is the appetite to experiment and take risks. We live in an era where there are very few defined boundaries and there is endless scope to think out-of-the-box. I would like to encourage everyone to grab the latest technology with both hands and energetically apply these principles to devise methods that can be applied to enhance the quality of life. Only then will we be looking at a bright future for our country.
